Summary
At Bank of America, I led design and research for identity and access management and third-party risk tools within Global Information Security, later stepping in as interim design manager. I redesigned Continuous Monitoring and PCAT, established design operations across a six-person team, conducted more than 40 research interviews, and helped ship an IAM solution estimated to save 250,000 hours across nearly 6,000 application teams.
Design operations
Navigating an organization as large as Bank of America requires tremendous cross-functional alignment. I configured our design team’s Jira to track and organize work alongside broader engineering teams, set up a SharePoint wiki to socialize our work across the organization, broke large epics into smaller tasks, and helped designers understand what successful delivery entailed.
Chris stepped into the project as the Lead UX Designer, but due to staffing shortages had to take on a much larger role. At times Chris took on the Business Analyst role and really worked to drive the project when a Project Manager was not assigned. Due to his diligence, the project continued to move forward even without these key roles.

Make remediation accountable
I led an internal application used to track vulnerabilities from identification through remediation. Leadership teams struggled because remediation steps and their rationale were not explicit enough and often lacked timelines. By adding the right form fields and improving several workflow screens, we closed many of those communication gaps.
Chris is an incredibly talented leader. His design skills and technical acumen are both solid and enviable. As Chris’s teammate, I always loved watching him workshop a problem. He is amazing at breaking a problem down into bite-size portions and leading a group to collaborate on possible solutions.

Discovery Research
Turn research into product direction
I led ethnographic research to understand why certain risk-remediation teams did not use Continuous Monitoring and related tools while still fulfilling their responsibilities. We recruited and recorded 40+ one-to-one conversations with risk managers, coded and synthesized the findings, and conducted a heuristic analysis of the usability gaps in the products we supported. Much of the insight pointed to systemic issues that spanned beyond any one application or pain point.
Chris is an extremely talented creative and designer. He was a dedicated team player, and he took personal responsibility to embody team values such as putting the team first and advocating for the user. He tirelessly worked to understand business needs, educate others on product and user-centered design practices, and advocate for the user. Permission Certification
My team was also responsible for PCAT, an internal permission-auditing tool. In a zero-trust environment, permissions accumulate over time and must be audited frequently to avoid expanding the attack surface. I led discovery and visual exploration; the resulting artifacts galvanized support, built confidence, and accelerated cross-functional decisions. After launch, the solution was estimated to save 250,000 IAM hours by making 1.5 million permission descriptions easier for nearly 6,000 application teams to understand and manage.
Minimal time is required with Chris to notice his passion for the arts. He majored in Building Architecture, performs as an elite illustrator, and became a master in user experience design. Chris is a true artist and someone I look forward to collaborating with on any project. His illustration skills make him perfect for whiteboarding and sketch exercises.
